Welcome back from Labor Day Weekend. If you’re like me, you probably feel like you need a rest after all the "labor" we do on these long weekends.
Although we all work hard, the key to success is to work smarter. To that end, we are doing our utmost to make our fast-approaching Conference our best yet, with expert presenters and topics that make sure you’ll learn valuable skills and find products and services to improve your practice and your client’s businesses. We are also in the midst of carefully evaluating QuickBooks Add-on for our Awesome Add-on Award to be announced at our Conference.
Members of our Sleeter Group Consultants Network also “labor” to help their customers. Our network members are available to help businesses integrate third party solutions, such as FishBowl Inventory, Bill.com and BillQuick. SmartVault, a Web-based document management system that helps companies easily go paperless, is the latest addition to our Solution Partner program. You can learn more about all our Solution Partners on our website.

| Cleaning Up QuickBooks Lists Using Excel |
 |
|
Lists are one of the most important building blocks of QuickBooks. Lists store information which is used again and again to fill out forms. For example, when you set up a customer in the customer list, the customer’s name, address, tax code, tax item, price level, etc. is used to automatically fill out an invoice, sales receipt, or customer letter. Similarly, when you set up an Item in the Item list, QuickBooks uses the Item’s description, price, and associated account information to fill in details on the invoice, and record the appropriate debits and credits in the general ledger. Properly maintained lists help speed up data entry and maintain accuracy and consistency in the data file.

| Tricks of the Trade |
 |
|
Every day, members of The Sleeter Group Consultants Network tackle the day-to-day problems of their clients in the real world. The following is an example problem and solution that surfaced this month on our Sleeter Group Consultants Network E-Mail Group.
Question: I have a client that wants to print a prior bank reconciliation. When they go to reports, banking, previous reconciliation, select the account and month and then display, a message pops up that states that an error has occurred and QuickBooks must shut down. No explanation of the error is given. QuickBooks completely shuts down. You then have to restart QuickBooks. If you want to undo a prior reconciliation, that seems to work fine. Has anyone else had this problem or know what the cause or solution is?
Cindy Hovig replied: This is a known problem. It has to do with Adobe Acrobat. Try this:
- In Acrobat, turn off the option for having web PDF docs open inside Internet Explorer.
- Also within Acrobat, select Edit menu, then Preferences. In the left Categories window, select Internet.
- Uncheck the box "Display PDF in Browser".
- Close Acrobat and then try viewing your reconciliation again.
If that does not work, call Support. They can help you.
