 Message from Doug

As you’re reading this, I am attending the Sage Insights Conference in Denver, along with 27 members of the Sleeter Group Consultants Network (SGCN). I will be sharing what I learn here with you in future newsletters and SGCN conference calls. The best consultants school themselves in a wide range of products and vendors. This helps them provide better services to their clients because they have a deeper appreciation for which products are good for different situations.

The Sleeter Group is growing! Just this month, we have added over 60 members to our group. If you are one of these new members, welcome! We are offering readers of our Doug Sleeternewsletter a free 45-day trial membership in our Network. If you have wondered about the e-mail forum that is the basis for our "Tricks of the Trade" articles and much of the content in our Consultant’s Reference Guide, then take a look at the this new free trial membership, as it includes a taste of both of these benefits.

Over and over, we have heard from SGCN members that they have gained unexpected benefits from being a part of our group. They talk about the camaraderie and expert advice they receive in the e-mail forum. They talk about the Consultant’s Reference Guide, which is free with membership. And they talk about the ways they connect with each other, through our conference calls, conferences, and seminars. As Joan Shumaker of Atlanta said, “Thanks, SGCN, for supporting me in reaching my company goals and my clients’ demands!”

Speaking of Atlanta, our first seminar in Atlanta is right around the corner, on June 25. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you at these upcoming local events. You can learn more and register at www.sleeter.com/online. See you there.

 Tricks of the Trade

Every day, members of the Sleeter Group Consultants Network tackle the day-to-day problems of their clients in the real world. The following is an example problem and solution that surfaced this month on our Sleeter Group Consultants Network Expert Forum.

Question: I am hoping some of you can refresh me. I have about 6,000 member names to import to QuickBooks. I am doing okay with the general names but there are four defined fields that need to come also. How do I get them to import? Thanks all!

Michelle Long asked: Are you using QuickBooks 2010?  In the new Add/Edit List Multiples, you can customize the columns to include the four custom fields.  Then, you just copy and paste to get them in!  It works great – I used it with about 550 inventory items.

Response: Michelle, the client uses QuickBooks 2008.

Gita Faust added: Try this

  1. Import the list into QuickBooks 2010.
  2. Export the customer list to an IIF file.
  3. Delete the first couple lines before the heading.
  4. Save it as an IIF file.
  5. Import the IIF file into QuickBooks 2008.

Final Response: Worked!!! Thank you so much

Total time from first question to final resolution – 2 hours!
